Weekly Update: 05.25.23

MISSISSIPPI RIVER LOCK AND DAM GROUNDBREAKING 

Last week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers broke ground on a new lock chamber at Lock & Dam 25 on the Mississippi River. The inland waterways system is a vital part of getting soybeans to market, and ISA continues to educate legislators on the importance of funding infrastructure projects.

ISA STAFF VISITS WASHINGTON, D.C.

This week, ISA staff visited Washington D.C. to continue building relationships with congressional staff and offices. These visits highlighted the impact legislation has on Illinois soybean farmers. ISA and ASA farmer leaders will be visiting Capitol Hill again in July to tell legislators directly how policy impacts their farms.

SOIL FERTILITY AND SOYBEAN YIELDS WITH KELLY ROBERTSON   

2023 Soy Envoy and soil fertility specialist, Kelly Robertson, says that many no-till farmers apply fertilizer before planting their corn crop, which can cause nutrients to be tied-up in cover crop residue and limits the yield potential of their soybean crop.
